Basic knowledge you have to know about waterproof watches!

Waterproof watches are divided into daily waterproof and professional waterproof. Daily waterproof watches can only prevent water splashing, while professional waterproof watches can withstand immersion in water at different depths. The waterproofness of watches depends on the waterproof rubber rings on the watch mirror, back cover, crown, etc. to meet the corresponding standards. Watches without waterproof marks can only prevent dust and should avoid getting wet. 30 meters (i.e. daily waterproof, subject to 3 atmospheres of pressure) waterproof watches can be used for daily washing or rain, that is, water droplets only splash on the surface without any water pressure on the watch, which is what we usually say when washing hands or getting wet in the rain; it should be noted here that daily waterproof refers to water droplets splashing on the watch, not a large amount of water pouring on it, so when washing hands, water should be avoided from directly pouring on the watch or the watch directly getting wet. Rain usually refers to raindrops, and the watch should be avoided from being washed by heavy rain. 50 meters waterproof watches can be used for water activities such as car washing, cold water showers, swimming, etc. 100 meters waterproof watches can be used for underwater work at the snorkeling level. Waterproof watches above 200 meters can withstand deep diving.

Precautions for waterproof watches:
(1) Waterproof rubber rings are prone to aging and deterioration. They should be replaced regularly or during each repair.
(2) Damage to the watch glass can affect the waterproof performance of the watch. If it is damaged, it should be replaced in time.
(3) Do not operate the crown of the watch in water or when the watch is wet to prevent water from entering the watch movement.
(4) Push the crown to the bottom after use. Make sure to lock the screw-on crown on the watch without leaving any gaps.
(5) Wipe the watch dry at any time if it gets wet.
(6) Prevent chemical substances from contacting the watch, otherwise it will affect the case and waterproof rubber ring and reduce the waterproof performance.
(7) Do not place the watch in a high temperature (+60℃) or low temperature (-10℃) environment for a long time.
(8) If water vapor fog appears in the watch, it should be removed in time to prevent rust on the parts.
(9) XX meters waterproof refers to X atmospheres, not to the ability to dive to XX meters; for example, 30 meters waterproof means the water pressure reaches 3 atmospheres.
(10) Do not take any watch to a hot shower or sauna. First, this will generate water vapor. The watch is waterproof, but not airtight. Moreover, water vapor will corrode the waterproof rubber ring. You may not feel it once or twice, but over time, water vapor will enter the watch and condense into water droplets, causing water to enter. In addition, no matter how good a watch is, it cannot avoid the phenomenon of thermal expansion and contraction. Thermal expansion and contraction will cause the friction of the parts in the movement to increase. Maybe it is not a problem once or twice, but if it continues like this for a long time, the movement will become less and less accurate!
Three types of waterproof watches:
1. Screw-on waterproof watches. The upper shell and the back cover of its case have threads, and the upper shell and the back cover are tightly screwed together by the action of the threads. The watch glass is pressed in with a tool, which is relatively tight. Waterproof gaskets (mostly made of nitrile rubber) are placed in the winding crown and the place where the back cover and the upper shell are screwed together, so it can play a certain waterproof role. For this type of waterproof watch, the outer surface of the back cover of the case may have a notch, and some have a polygonal convex part. The back cover must be opened and closed with the corresponding tool.
2. Buckle-type waterproof watch. There is a circle of high convex openings inside its back cover, so that the upper case and the back cover can be tightly buckled. The watch glass is also pressed in with tools like the spiral waterproof watch, which is relatively tight. Waterproof gaskets are also placed in the winding handle and the contact part between the upper case and the back cover. The back cover of this waterproof watch is opened by prying with a knife, and the back cover is closed by pressing with a rolling tool or pushing with fingers.
3. Sleeve-type waterproof watch. Its upper case is pressed on the bottom cover. The shape of the back cover of this watch case is quite special: there is a high wall around it, the movement is installed inside the wall of the back cover, and the watch glass is directly covered on the wall of the back cover. After the upper case is pressed in, the watch glass and the back cover are tightly covered, thus playing a role of sealing and waterproofing. Its winding stem is connected by upper and lower sections. When opening and closing the back cover, first remove the winding stem and the upper winding stem, and press and tighten them with a special rolling tool. No special pressing tool is needed, and it can be pushed with fingers.
